Finding your Legal Marketing Niche

There are a number of reasons why it’s beneficial for law firms to focus their marketing efforts on a more constricted legal practice niche rather than trying to expand their practice everywhere to everyone. Here’s why:

1. You’ll be perceived as an expert. If a firm focuses its practice solely on one specific area of law (i.e. criminal law, family law or personal injury law), the chances of you being seen as an expert in your field are way higher than if your attorneys are practicing within a bunch of different legal areas. Even more so, if you’re a client who needs representation in an even more specific case such as a medical practice case, you’re going to want to hire an attorney who has extended experience in medical malpractice, specifically the type of injury you’ve sustained.

2. You’ll have an advantage over your competitors. Focusing your firm’s marketing efforts in a narrow niche will ultimately help you draw in more clients. There are attorneys out there who spread themselves thin trying to represent clients in all areas of practice, and there are those who focus primarily on handling one particular area. Those are the attorneys that will win more clients because, as stated above, there will be a perception of expertise recognized from their potential clients.

3. Your clients will trust you more. This idea ties into both mentioned above. Because you have noteworthy experience in one particular legal area, your clients will trust your legal advice over an attorney’s help who has a wider and more spread out practice focus. If you’re an attorney who has a successful track record in your legal field, you’ll attract many more clients.
