Puerto Rico Legal Marketing

The commonwealth of Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States. Spain ruled it for many years until the end of the Spanish-American War in the late 1800s, when the U.S. military took control of the island. In 1917, the Jones Act officially made it a U.S. territory and also granted residents statutory citizenship. The issue of Puerto Rican statehood has come up more than once, but has never gained a wide following. Most of its 3.8 million residents seem to prefer either remaining as they are or becoming their own country. The capital of Puerto Rico is San Juan, which has almost 500,000 inhabitants. The San Juan metro area has 1.5 million.
