New York Legal Marketing

The Dutch settled in the New York area in 1624, calling it New Netherland. The English took over in 1664, renaming a portion to honor the Duke of York. The colony declared independence on July 9, 1776, adopted its first constitution the next year and became the 11th state in the Union on July 26, 1788. New York City was the Union’s first capital, and it was there that President George Washington was inaugurated in 1789.

Today New York State has over 19,500,000 residents and more than 8,200,000 of them live in New York City. The state capital, Albany, boasts some 93, 963 inhabitants and was one end of America’s first railroad, which ran 11 miles between it and Schenectady. More recently, New York City’s subway saw 1.62 billion riders in 2008.

Albany County Bar Association: The ACBA promotes professionalism and justice with a variety of programs and services for its members. Services for the community include a pro bono program and an annual program to help seniors with their legal issues.

New York Women’s Bar Association: The non-profit NYWBA works to improve the standing of all women in society and especially to help women lawyers with professional development and advancement.
