Nevada may be the Silver State, but it’s one of the top five gold producers in the world, and fully 80% of the gold produced in the US is from Nevada. In addition to gold, the state is home to the bristlecone pine, the oldest species of tree in the world, capable of living over 5,000 years. Some of these trees have witnessed a large chunk of Nevada history, including its admission to the Union as the 36th state, on October 31, 1864.
Today, Nevada is also home to some 2,643,000 people, about 20% of whom live in Las Vegas, the state’s largest city. Carson City is Nevada’s capital, and around 55,300 people call it home.
