Massachusetts Legal Marketing

Massachusetts wrote its Constitution in 1780, eight years before becoming the sixth state admitted to the Union on Feb. 6, 1788. That document still informs governance of the Bay State today, making it the oldest written Constitution still in use anywhere in the world.

The commonwealth covers 8,257 square miles, with a population of nearly 6,600,000. Almost 591,000 of those residents live in its capital and largest city, Boston. Some Massachusetts residents prefer a quieter life, living in tiny towns like Gosnold — population 86.
