Indiana Legal Marketing

Indiana was part of the Northwest Territory until 1800, when Congress split off the Indiana Territory. Over the next nine years, additional lands split off, creating the Michigan and Illinois Territories. Finally, on December 11, 1816, the reduced Indiana Territory became the Union’s 19th state.

Corydon (population 2,715 in 2000) was Indiana’s capital until 1825. Since then, it has been Indianapolis, which today boasts about 785,600 residents. The capital is part of Marion County, the state’s largest, with a population of almost 890,900. In 2009, Indiana’s total population was estimated at 6,423,113.
